Synchronised Interrupter

Instant-off potential is used to assess structure potential against cathodic protection criteria. If several transformer rectifiers protect one structure, all must interrupt simultaneously to measure this potential. A synchronised interrupter is required.

Transformer rectifier switching can be synchronised using:

  • Microwave
  • Direct cabling
  • Landline or GSM mobile telephone
  • GPS satellite clocks

Synchronisers can be fixed, independent station equipment or portable units.

A common portable device is the GPS interrupter, installed at the transformer rectifier output or power input. It comprises a GPS clock and a circuit commanding a contactor to switch on and off. Different current ratings are available according to customer requirements and transformer rectifier capacity.

Borna Electronic can design and manufacture synchronised interrupters to meet customer requirements or project needs.
