Plugs are principal components of access fitting assemblies. They seal the access fitting to maintain line pressure at the installation point. They also connect to the coupon holder or probe, allowing insertion and removal using a retriever. The plug facilitates access to the operating system at pressures up to 6000 psi.
Plugs are classified by body shape and connection to the holder or probe as:
- Solid Plug
- Hollow Plug
Borna Electronic plugs are generally manufactured from 316 or 316L stainless steel to customer requirements and international standards including ASTM A276 and ANSI/NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 for sour environments. In very severe corrosion conditions, higher-resistance stainless steel materials such as Inconel 625, Nitronic or Duplex can be used.
A solid plug comprises a pipe plug, solid plug body, O-ring, primary packing, packing retaining nut and set screw. A hollow plug comprises a pipe plug, hollow plug body, primary packing, packing retaining nut, probe packing, seal nut and set screw.
The retaining nut holds the primary packing in position and ensures sealing when monitoring equipment is not attached to the solid plug. The O-ring provides a secondary seal and protects the plug threads from unnecessary process-fluid contact.
